  1. i expected much and didnt get much out of it. i expected that we were going to get our laptops the first month, that the classes were going to be more technological, that the teachers would assist us more but they asssit us less than last year, and that we would have the same amount of work as we had last year. i didnt knw about PBL i didnt even understand it for a couple of days because even the teachers were all confused. even when we got to do that PBL handout people just put what they heard. all the handouts were contantly repeated by the students. i thought PBL was just something Technoligical not projects with students that sometimes dont do work and they still get the credit.therfore, that was what i expected.

  2. i thought that p.b.l would make us get easier grades? and i did not know nothing bout that grant" but i had also knowed that our school did not have any money! but pbl will get us ready for college and a normal work base!

  3. it isn't how i imagined it to turn. they actually made learning kinda harder. some teachers think jux cause we got computers that they don't have to teach us so much anymore and the computer will take care of it when thats not the case at all. students still need that guidance and supervision of the teacher.

i expected things to be different but this surprised me. they took out lockers and books. and gave us computers. i didn't know about PBL but i learned about it. i knew about the laptops and the grant money. i think it would be bad. we have all dealt with books for a long time. it is not like i imagined it is so much better.

  5. Well I wasn't looking forward to coming school because I heard about the changes and how things were supposed to work over summer break. I didn't know as much as I do now about PBL but i knew some. I also knew about the laptops and the grant money that we received.I thought it was going to be cool and that I would enjoy school more but that didn't happen. There are more problems with these computers than i have ever seen. I hate that the computers dont last like there supposed to, the shutdown for no reason, and they go whack. I miss we could have something done about these computers.

  6. Over summer when I was preparing for school, I didn't really know what to expect. I knew there was going to be a lot of changes and I knew that I wasn't going to enjoy working in groups all the time. I had a lot of ideas of what the cirriculum would be like, but I never really imagined that it'd be like it has turned out to be. When I heard that Peach County High School had qualitified to receive the grant money, I was shocked. I didn't know what it would bring and how much the school would change. I had heard of PBL, but I didn't get a clear understanding of what it was until I got to school and started participating in it. I immdeiately didn't enjoy it at all. I definitely liked the old grading system better. I figured that what has happened with the laptops would happen. I anticipated the problems everyone would come into contact with and I knew there were going to be those few people that would ruin it for the rest of us. It's definitely something we have to get used too, but it's starting to slowly grow on me and I'm adjusting rather well, I believe.

  7. I did not have any expectations for the school year before I came because I did not know anything about Project Based Learning but i was informed that it would prepare us for college. I knew of the laptopts but I did not know how much grant money we had gotten. I thought that PBL was going to actually help me learn more but all it is doing is making me stressed. I miss being taught to because if i knew half of this information then I would not be in school. I am not a hands-on learner so I dont learn by doing I learn by hearing and that is my biggest issue that I have with Project Based Learning but oher than that it is what I expected.

  8. Well to be honest with you, I just thought that it would actually be a regular day. But what did we get? We got PBL which I totally disagree with, and presentation after presentation. Of course I was so excited about coming back, because we where going to get our own little personal laptop. But I learned that the laptops was not the only thing to worry about.

  9. I honestly thought school was going to be SUPER hard! I was nervous about coming back! Which never happens, I'm usually excited for school! I had heard about the Grant money and that we were supposedly getting laptops, but I wasn't going to believe it until I saw it. Now that the school year has progressed and the first semester is almost over I really don't know what I was scared about! This is probably my easiest year of Highschool so far!

  10. I was expecting the worse coming back to school after hearing soooo many rumors about this grant money and the laptops. I was thinking it was going to be very difficult to have to keep up with all of my schoolwork on a little laptop. I was overwhelmed also when we were told how the education was going to be taugh to us through PBL. I was confused at first but I think it has benefited us.

  11. I can say that I knew about the new things taht our school was bringing in but I hade in my head that it was goin to go bad and I was so correct. More kids grades are going down and the teachers wonder why and how. PBL not in every class like it should be at all. Laptops not used for work at all times more kids everyday are starting drama threw the laptops.

  12. I thounght with us using P.B.L it would be alot easier but instead its complicated, more work. And with the grant i felt like wo would use more stuff and make the school better.

  13. We talked about getting the grant last year & how different classes would be. In my first block last year, one day all we did was discuss how these changes would affect our education & how things would work. Over the summer I was preparing for the same old thing that had been going on here, but it was so different! We had Golden Girl camp here in June & we walked around & saw that they took down walls & we were just like WOW! It was so different. I didn't think that it would be different but it was. Peach County is never on time with anything so it didn't surprise me that we didn't have our laptops when they said we would. I was shocked that they even gave us these things! I didn't know that they even trusted us with this responsibility. But having these laptops teaches us trust, respect, & responsibility, which are our academy norms.

  14. This year when I came back to school I expected changes, but I sort of knew how it would eventually play out. I did know about PBL, the laptops, and the grant money because it was discussed briefly on the news.I thought it would be different because of the technology and not having the lockers. It is like I expected, for example some students using the laptops for everything but their work.

  15. I only knew about the laptops, but i never knew about the PBL. I thought the school year would be very cool with the laptops, but it seems as if we have more work though.

  16. Shay--
I knew about the laptops and that we were going to do things like that new tech place in Indiana or where ever it was that the teachers went last year to check things out.I automatically doubted it would be a good thing because its peach county.Don't get me wrong,I love this place,it's my home now.But as far as the school system goes,I've been to way better schools. This is the most unorganized school I have been to.And I've been to quite a few schools before i moved here. There hasn't been enough discipline out here I think. There are too many immature people at this school that there's no way we can make this transition smooth.I thought it was pretty funny when Coach Mackey was talking about how they expect students to act proffesional and all that. There's no way.Lord knows I wish it weren't so.It'd be the best if people used common sense and didn't act like they were still in middle school. And from what I've seen it's mostly the upperclassmen. It's sad that people who are about to graduate in a fews months or next year can't act like it.And because they do it the underclassmen are going to think it's ok and do it too.it's an endless cycle.I wish I was graduating this year instead of next year because this is rediculous and I'm tired of all the issues here and I'm tired of my schedule getting jacked up because like I said earlier, peach county is unorganized.I know some of the people here try to get things done and actually help students but a few is not enough.I mean really, isn't this what meetings are for?To discuss what needs to be done and how to improve things? And I know that's what is done in there but all ya'll seem to do is talk.Ya'll talk about what ya'll should do but there's no action to follow it up.Like this pants thing for the guys that Mackey talked about this morning. It's not gonna do a thing. And I'll be blow away if after Thanksgiving break they actually have to tuck their shirts in.Even if Ya'll tell them they have to,there's still the lack of discipline. It's not going to work because they don't take ya'll seriously. So nothing's changed as far as behavior goes since this change.I knew it wouldn't.I knew that people would ruin the laptops for those of us who actually think that they could help and be a good thing.Honestly though,I thought the work would be somewhat easier since we have laptops.I never expected we'd have so much work to do all the time and be in groups always. Now I understand why my parents are so irritable when they get home. And people irked me before...ha.Right now I would seriously love to go back to how it was two years ago.I think that was the best.This...this is causing more problems rather than solving them.

  17. When I came back to school I thought we were going to have the laptops when school started. Everybody knew we were getting laptops but I think everybody was excited about it. I say no it is not how I imagined. I think PBL is not working out well like everyone excepted it was going to be. I knew about the grants because the last year 12 graders was telling us about how the school was going to change and things like that.

When i came back to school i thought i was gonna be learning the same way i did since forever.I knew about the grant money and the laptops, however i was like"laptops at our school"i would love to see how this works out.I did not imagine it would be like this.

  19. when i heard that we were going to have laptops first it was exciting but now since we have them it is nothing but an distraction most percentage of student would say that this is holding them back if they were going to bring pbl they could have at least been ready the first day we got here

  21. I had heard about the grant money over the summer and the laptops but I didn't know about the PBL. I didn't really know how the laptops were gonna work or if we were gonna be able to take them home with us and get internet. I thought it would be easier with the laptops, but the work has just become more complicated. I was nervous about using the laptops when I heard about them because I'm not very good with technology or doing work on computers. I've become well adjusted to using the laptops and they make it much easier to take notes and do lessons than I thought it would be. I didn't think everything would be blocked on our computers or that we would be doing so much work by ourselves. It feels like we basically teach ourselves now and I wasn't expecting that at all, but the teachers and students are all adjusting and learning how to incorporate them into our everyday schedule better.

  22. I remember when i first found out about the computers, i was kinda excited and kinda not. It was over summer and it was almost school time and i didnt have to get anything for school because i heard about the laptops. I knew about PBL from when a teacher told me last year. I thought it would be alot different than it is but its really not. I would think having a laptop would make people wanna do their work, but actually it holds people back for doing their work. You have some people who stay on task and do work, then you have other people who dont do nothing except stay on youtube. If we didnt get the computers i think i would be learning alot more in my other classes because somebody will be off task then we will spend all day talking about the computers. I have learned alot in your class yes, i just wish every other class was like yours. In my other classes im not learning a single thing because they are to busy worrying with someones computer. Your class i stay on task and finish my work, yes it is alot of work, but i know the more i do in your class, the less i have to do at home. Overall, i think this whole laptop and PBL is a disaster. we could do PBL without the laptops and that would give students a reason to do their work, rather than stay on youtube.

  23. I expected the school year to be a lot easy this year since we have the computers. But its doing nothing but making it harder. Some teachers want the computer to teach us.

  24. I kind of knew about PBL last year when our teachers were discussing it with us, but i never thought that it would actually happen. I expected for the school to just be totally different because so many changes were taking place. Let's think about it no lockers, no books but not laptops, and no individual work but now everything is group work. Then, the school time from 8:30-3:05 is not 7:30-4:14, now that is a dramatic change. I expected a change, but not a serious change like we have now. For instance, I thought we would at least have some indiviudal activities, but everything is group work. Then, I thought that the teachers would still do their jobs and teach us, but some say they are just considered as facilitators so they just watch and observe. The PBL thing is a growing process and PCHS is trying to work its way up. However, we are doing this slowly.

  25. During the summer I heard a lot things about our school year. I thought they would have every things they needed together before we even got here but they proved me wrong. I thought this school year was going to be better since we were going to have laptops and on different curriculum but now that I see that this year is just like every other year a straight out mess, they really don't know what they want to do. They just wasting money like always. I really didn't expect us to come to school so earlier and get out so late I think that's stupid because if they wanted to be like the other schools that have this curriculum they should have put us back on the 5 day schedule and let us come to school the same time they do. It's crazy because the 12th graders are not on the same curriculum as the 9th through 11th graders are while our maths are combined they're still doing algebra geometry and etc.,. I just think this is so crazy I just don't understand. PBL is suppose to be preparing us for the future, but I don't think it is at all because I just don't understand how it goes. I just wish they will go back to what we had our previous years either back to the 5 day schedule when we get out at 3:05 or they 4 day schedule when we got out at 3:15. Students may have adjust to them better than to this one this year.

  26. I first thought this school year would be better then last year since we have the laptops and on a diiferent curriculum but its so hard because this PBL is so stupid that i can't even explain it. I don't like it and i think we should go back to the regular curriculum as soon as possible.Half of the students that are failing some of their class.

  27. To be honest I was excited about this school year. Why, because I would have my own laptop. But now I think would learned better with a book in my face. I didn't know anything about a grant until August. And this pbl, i don't like at all. When i home sometimes im so burnt out from projects and other things that I don't even watch tv. I just fall asleep and dont wake up until midnight. I really hope that pbl thing doesnt last all my highschool years. If thats whats gonna happeni might just not go to college

  28. It is not how I expected it to be at all. I expected the school to be completely different, however that was not the case. While there are differences, its not as much as I originally thought. I knew about the laptops and grant money because of teachers I had last year, and I also had heard about the different academies. However, I didn't know about PBL, what it was or that we were even participating in it. I thought that working in groups would make school a lot easier than it was last year. However, I quickly discovered the opposite. Not everyone here is as dedicated to their work, and would rather search youtube instead of graduate. This makes working in groups difficult at times. I think that all of the new things at PCHS is only making school harder because of all the new distractions and the laptops.

  29. I knew alot of things would change but only knew certain things into small detail. I only about the grant money and that they took the lockers away. The laptops, pbl, and other I didn't know about. And also I knew that they was adding an extra class for us to take and that it was year long.

  30. when i came back to school, i knew that it would be a complete change. i knew about the grant money that we where getting to change our school to pbl. on the other hand, i didn't know about the laptops, i knew that we weren't going to use books. i thought that we would be given laptops to leave at school not our own individual laptops. it's really not like i imagined because i thought this would give us time to bond and come together as 1 unit because of gaining trust, respect, and responsibility, but it's not.

  31. When i first heard about the computers i was kinda happy. I thought that meant i didnt have to hear the teachers talk my ear off about a lesson. Its been so many changes with these computers. Many teachers take advantage of these computers. They think just becuase they can email you their work it means there is NO teaching involved. Thats not true cause some kids dont learn that way. Im one of those students. Project base learning is something that took away books and just a gray laptop in front of us. These laptops have their goods and bads to them. I rather just have my teacher talk for a while den giveus our work to do. With the laptops its made more work for us. Some say students can learn from each other yes, thats true sometimes but not all the time.Every once in a while you have to have that teacher there showing you how and what to do. Its what i thought it would be,except with more work and making things harder. I personally thing they sould have given the Ninth grade the computers first cause 12 and 11 graders are almost done with school. This was just an experiment they should have just tried it with them.

  32. When i returned to P.C.H.S. I actually did not expect anything different. It was hard for me to believe that we were really going to change this much.We are now working with laptops, when we were custom with paper. We are spending time with projects, and group work when it used to only be a privilege.
I am just now getting used to New Tech, and am slowly liking it. This is mostly due to not having to look at a book. (Books are evil)

  33. WELL YES I KNEW ABOUT PBL AND KNOW IT WAS NOT LIKE I IMAGINED ITS VERY DIFFERENT

  34. When I returned to the school i expected alot of change to the school. The laptops is a good essential tool for us, but the school was better with noo laptops.Im getting use to the new tech school and it kinda of fun.

  35. Over the summer,I was very nervous coming back to school for my junior year here at Peach County.I was also shocked at the same time because we were the only county out of the entire state to get the grant money.I never thought in a billion years that our county would be the one to get chose for PBL and techonology.I was excited when I found out that we were gonna do all of our work on laptops and do away with pencil, paper, writing, and books. My mom told me if I couldn't keep the grades,I would have to go somewhere else and do the work the old way which wouldn't be any fun.Schools not any different than it was last year except we sit infront of a grey box all day that lights up.Ever since we got the computers,I've been able to makes A's and B's which this year has been my best academically wise.

  36. When I found out about the laptops over the summer, I was ready for school to start. I thought we were getting the laptops in the first week of school, but we didn't. I never would've thought that peach county would switch to a new tech academy. I believe these computers have helped us in some ways by making it easier to do projects; but for others, it has allowed them to just play. These computers are nothing like I imagined but I really enjoy using them for projects.

  37. When I first heard about PBL, I was excited because I liked working in groups. I was also excited, because I thought that it was going to be a lot better than working out of the book all the time. However, it is not what I was expecting. I was expecting that we were going to be in groups that really wanted to do the project and that were excited about getting their part done. However, in some of my classes I have had some really bad groups. I have been stuck doing really long projects all by myself. I also expected that we would learn a lot more this way, but as we have been doing it, I have realized that it is nice to have projects once in a while but working in the book and taking notes will always be good and helpful. I was expecting the projects to be helpful, and done with a good group of people. However, there are some students that could care less about their grade, and they do nothing to contribute to the group and if you kick them out it lowers your grade. I liked it better, when I was the only one that was responsible for determing my grade now I have to make sure my group works in order to get a good grade. This makes me stressed and does not let me concentrate on what I should be learning. PBL this year is not what I expected it to be. I expected it to be helpfuland fun!

  38. i did expect it to be completely different even though i didn't know about pbl, i just felt it'll be different but to me i think this its more work with pbl because all the projects but other than that...its straight!!!!!!!!

  39. when i came back to school this year i had no idea about the PBL...i knew that we were suppose to be getting labtops but i didnt know if it was true or not, and obviously it was true because we have labtops....knowing all of this i expected things to be different and not the same as the years before.....

    ReplyDelete
  40. I expected that we classes would be a lot easier to understand since we had computers. I also expected that we would be paperless but honestly i think we use more paper now than we ever did because some teachers don't trust us and so they say to use paper. I think that having a laptop makes it more like we are growing up and we should be more mature about them and how to use them correctly would be common sense. I had not heard of PBL but once I saw some of my classes and saw the level of intelligence and the percent of people in that class with me that i KNEW would not work no matter what you told them, and then realizing that PBL was a group project thing and that we had to have trust in the people around us. WHAT? I have to trust so-and-so who NEVER works with a part of my project that will effect my grades? I don't think so!Ii was not happy about that and to this day I still don't see an effort in some of the people in the class with me. During the summer, I heard that Peach County was getting the grant this year and that they were getting everyone a laptop! I was so excited about having a school laptop and that we could do work on here and save paper! Before knowing all these things, I expected that it would be a lot easier and that we would be treated like older, more mature young adults...wrong! Some teenagers do not know how to be mature or have not hit that level yet in there life, so with the laptops they act stupid and immature, therefore, every one to me is effected by this. I still expect that the board will get everything straightened out, but how do you expect for 13,14,15 and some older kids to actually take care of a laptop and be mature with it when they can't even bring a pencil to school or forget a book (previous years). My opinion is that some of these new ideas should have been thought out a little better and a little longer.

  41. Yes I did know about pbl & the labtops. I feel like it was not how I imagine. These computer are no good & how they exspect us to do our work is way different.

  42. I knew about the basics of PBL and our laptops. I use my laptop as I imagined, and it has brought my grades up. It can be very useful if it is used appropriately. I expected this year to be a lot harder than previous years, and unfortunately, it is. Some of the difficulty seems unnecessary.

    ReplyDelete
  43. yes i new about the pbl and the labtops i new tha t it was goin to be a lot of changes but i think that the labtops is kinda hurting us and helping us at the same time.

  44. I knew about PBl and how we would be getting laptops. However i didnt know how hard it would be and that we would get this many projects. The PBL was a good idea, dont get me wrong, but the fact that we have to do a 1 - 3 week long project in a class, while possibly doing another project within the same class while doing that one AND the not to mention the ones we do in OTHER classes WHILE we do THE one in that class.... it can be very hard, many problems can come up, not to mention stressing, and of course if you tell a teacher that they say "just do it after school, then you have plenty of time" yet they do not think about the possibility that we might have to wait after school to do ANOTHER or OTHER projects which are due the same week for different classes. The whole idea of it was very well a good intention, but it resulted in a bad problem in which a lot of students are struggling to get their grades up whether the do the projects or not. I imagined it would be easy and less on the student. But i was by far wrong on that, i imagined wrong.

  45. i expected it tpo be easier with the computers but it acctuaaly turned out to be harder than i thought the comp turned out to be just one more distraction but if used the right way it will really help and the grading scale is way diff too but like i said do what you gotts do and you will pass.

  46. well i was thinking that it was going to be the same as always but only difrent about the academys and the things they change this year..i had no idea about the laptos like after 2 o 3 weeks when i came from mexico. i thought it was going to be alot alot eassy bcause now we could like do the sheet of work and then chill. but it turned out that it was acctually harder because now we have more work and work since we have laptops.but it was good bcause if you stay in task and do whateva you have to do, you'll finish kinda fast. but i didnt ecpect all this.
