Week of Oct. 12-Oct. 15

USATestprep Test code- HUSUYENANU due by Wed. Oct. 20. Go to EOCT instead of GHSGT!

Blog topic:
Based on how this year has gone so far, share your opinions on the schedule. Would you prefer to go back to a 5 day week? Would you prefer to stay on block schedule but go back to 90 minute blocks? Or would you prefer to go to a 6 or 7 class schedule, where you stay in the same classes all year and they last 55 minutes?  Think about PBL and how this would work.

Blog response due by Sunday, Oct. 17.

  2. I would rather keep a four day school week because I need my monday. That 3 day weekend feel real good. If we go back on a 5 day week. We would have the same classes all year for 55 mins a block.

  3. I would rather go back to block schedule with 90 minute blocks because that's how it's been & it's worked for me! Last year was a good year academically. The only challenging thing was I had 2 A.P. courses & one of them was only a semester long so it was difficult to learn all the material in that short amount of time. But, I think that if we went back to how it was last year then we wouldn't have as many tardies as we do or people skipping or leaving early. We're here for so long during the day. I think that going four days & at 8:30 would be good.

  4. In my honest opinion, this is the worst thing that Peach County has ever done.I know that the world is eveolving and techonology is advancing, but come on,what happened to books with pencil and paper? We are so worried about these dumb computers that most of the students grades have dropped dramatically since we received them and we don't have the system to keep the internet running.I'm just tired of the class of 2012 being the guinea pigs which i refer to as being the ones that tested every thing on.I wish that it was just like last year when school was 4 days a week from 8:30 till 3:45.To me that was the best thing that the county has ever done.I think that if we don't make AYP this year, the state will take control on the school.I would really love if the school was based off of last year with the same times but with alot better techonology.

  5. i rather it stay this way cause we will need a break from all this and we canuse monday for that and also its better cause students can get a job and be responsible...

  6. Four day week is great.I would rather stay on on four day week w/o the hected schedule.4:15 is wayyyyy too long and most students are more relaxed by that hour!

  7. I would rather go back to a 5 day school week because our classes are awfully too long. Sitting in a class for almost 2 hours gets boring sometimes. Teachers are not use to teaching that long so sometimes we end up not doing anything in some of our classes. Also, athletes usually are just getting out of practice around 7 or 8 so by the time we get home and take a bath and those things then it's time to go to sleep. If we stay up to do our homework then that leaves us to getting to bed around 1 or 2 having to get right back up some of us at 5, some at 6. I know that we have an extra day to do work, but teachers take this extra day out of proportion and give us more work than we can bare. We try to have fun on the weekend and spend time with family and friends but because of all this work it's hard for us to live our teen lives. Also, pbl requires more than 55 min so therefore we need that extra day to go back to block schedules. I could go on and on but those are only a few of my concerns.

  9. Based on how this year is so far, I would rather go back to the old way like it was in my 9th grade year. That's including the four blocks, 90 min. classes, and school time frame 8:25 to 3:05. Therefore, I would like to go back to a 5 day week

  10. I would rather go back to the five days because our classes are to long. And we get out of school too late some people get home around 5:00 and then they have alot of homework and projects to do. It gets boring sitting in a class for a long time.I think we should get a break in between classes. Also we have too much work for just four days. I like to have things done and on time. They should think about the athletes too because they have to go to pratice for a long time and then go home to do their work. That's why I think we should go back to five days.

  11. To the truthfully honest..I think this idea of PBL is not right thing for Peach County High School right now. Because if you really look at how things are going you would say the same thing. For one the students really don't be paying attention like they use to, they are more in the laptops that ever. Then the time frame that we have is straight ridiculous. Our 4th block 55 minutes long and there isn't enough time to learn a whole lot of things, and sitting in class for 110 minutes is straight out boring. Then its harder for the athletes b/c they get out of practice late then have to come home and do their homework then get up in the morning and come to school and still be sleepy and the teachers expect them to be awake at all time I don't think that's right.I think it's better if we just go back to the 5 day schedule that we use to have with 4 blocks, that was better.

  12. I would rather go back to 5 day school week because classes are totally to long.Being in class for 100 and 10 minutes are to long so i'll rather stay with 90min per class.Being in school from 7:15 til 4:15 is not a good set time for students to be in school that long.8:25 to 3:05 is better for students because some of us work. I might miss having Mondays off if we go back to 5 days school week but it would be worth it.

  13. Based on how this year is going, I would much rather go back to a 5 day school week. I'll admit it is nice to have Mondays off, but it's not worth it if we're not leaving school until 4:15. After 3:00 my brain shuts down and is ready to go home. Being in school for almost 9 hours makes it hard to concentrate by the end of the day. I'd rather go back to the 90 minute classes too because you're not stuck in one class for close to 2 hours. I don't agree with the 4th block time only being 55 minutes long. It puts the 4th block class further behind than all the other class. I know it's a year long class, but it's still hard to keep up with the work when as soon as you get in there and situation it's time to go. It makes me feel rushed. I would not like to have 6 or 7 classes. I like having only 4 or 5 classes. I'd be compeltely overwhelmed with all those classes. If we went back to a 5 day school week and 90 minute class, I don't think PBL would be affected. I think it'd be the same as it is now, except we'd have more class time to work on our projects.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Well to be honest with you, I'd rather go back to 5 day weekday, to me this is the craziest thing I've ever seen. Four day weekdays are longer, stressful, and by the time you get home, it's not enough time to what you have to do.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Since our school is now based on PBL, I believe that the amount of time that we have in our classes right now is a sufficent amount of time, since we are always working on a project. The schedule that we have now allows us to have enough time to finish most of these projects in class. I also like not having to come to school on Mondays. The four day week is full of work in every class, but we still have work to do outside of class. Monday gives us time to finish the work, and to even meet up with our group members if we need it. It gives us a break from the stressful four day week. The way that everything is set up now would not be a good way to do it if we wern't learning by using PBL. However, since we are this is probably one of the only ways to do so. I think that it would seem better to most of us, if we didn't have a project every week, and could do other things to accomplish the standards. This would make the year go by a lot better.

  16. i would like to stay with a 4 day week because the weekend is longer

  17. If it was up to me I would make us have 5 90 minute classes rather than 4 classes that last 110 minutes and one that's 55 minutes, personally my 55 minute class is a class I like but by the time we get our laptops and stuff out and do our bellwork question and definition we've only got 40 minutes to put towards working on our weekly project, or whatever other assignment we may be working on.

All 90 minute classes would also shorten up the almost 2 hours we have now in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th block, which get boring :/

However I do like the 4 day week, but I would rather go from 8:30 - 4:45 or so, instead of 7:30-4:15

  18. based on how this year is going its easy for me to say that i definetley wouldn't want to go back to a five day week because im already very busy as it is. I would however love to have the same time schedule for school that we had last year (even though the time changes every year since i was in 9th grade)...i think PBL and all this group work is good to a certain extent but at the end of the year the focus is not going to be on how many projects we did in a year its going to be on who passed the graduation test

  19. i would perfer the block schedule because it seemed for me, to be the best use of the time i have in the day.

  20. I WOULD LIKE TO STAY ON A 4 DAYU WEEK CAUSE WE LEARN A LITTLE MORE AND WE DO MORE HANDS ON.

  21. to be honest this is the worst thing peach county has ever done! I rather go back to 5 days aweek, i mean four days a week are alright but its not what i thought it would be. We arent learning as much as we should be, this laptops arent anything but a distraction to me and others. I know what important but sometimes i forget, but what i do detemines my future. Everything seems to be packed on us at once since we are on PBL now. We arent takin things by charpter anymore!

  22. THIS HOW I REALLY FEEL ABOUT THIS WHOLE SITUATION.... TO ME THE SCHOOL IS REALLY CHANGING I DONT LIKE THIS 4 DAY SCHOOL WEEK BECAUSE THE SCHOOL HOURS ARE TO LONG AND PLUS THE HOME IS ABOUT A HOUR LONG....... I WOULD LIKE TO KEEP THE FOUR DAY WEEK IF ONLY THE TIME WOULD CHANGE... IF NOT THEN I WOULD WANT TO GO BACK TO A 5 DAY SCHOOL WEEK

    ReplyDelete
  23. I prefer the 5 day school week, with less time a day at school. Going to school from 7:00 to 4:20 is pretty much miserable to me. I don't even do anything on Mondays. I might as well just go to school, and get out about two hours earlier everyday. I believe there is a large misconception of what PBL is supposed to be.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I would rather go back to a five day school week. going to school 4 days a week sounds like alot of fun, but when you go from 7:30 to 4:14 its a very long day and it drags out. By the time i get home everyday after school and work im too tired to do my homeowrk. Our classes are almost two hours long and our attention spands arent that long. To be honest, your class is the only class we actually do PBL in. All my other classes just do the same thing as we did before the laptops.

  25. I would prefer to stay on a 4 day week because the school week is shorter and the weekend is longer.I'm fine with the block schedule we are on now.

  26. Have such long days at school just sucks! Although Mondays can be used for doctors’ appointments and personal things, but there’s no need to have that day off. I have nothing to do on Mondays EVER! And PCHS is the only school with that day off so it’s not like you can go and hang out with friends that go to other schools because they are in school. I would much rather go back to five day school weeks, because our days wouldn’t be as long. I wake up at 5, get on the bus at 6, get to school at 7, stay at school until 4:15, get home at 5:30, and I am drained! There is no time for me to do homework because I am soooo tired! Your class and Chemistry are really the only classes we do PBL in. And I think if we had an extra day out of the week to learn the material we wouldn't have to rush it all.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I would rather have 6 or 7 block schedue with 55 minutes because the day will go by faster...at least that how i'll feel

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think that the schedule times last year with school starting at 8:30 and ending at 3:45 with no school on mondays did very well for the students. The times this is year are exausting and very tiring. I think its draining the students and especially the ones wiht extra activities after school and jobs. Its very difficult to contain good grades and also have a job and also get up as early as 5 in the morning to go to school. PBL would work better with longer classes though because you need time to complete the projects. This schedule isnt doing any of the "new and better year" and justice.

  29. i like the four day week but i hate the times of the class they are entirely to long to just be sitting in a class learning. if i could changed anything i would want to go back to the five day week because we have shorter class times. i would never make a choice to have 6 or 7 periods i love block schedule.i wish we could go to school from 9-2 that's really a tech school hours of school time. 7:30 to 4:14 is to long by the time i get home it be about 5:00 and i know the one's that have practice doesnt get home until abt 7 or 8.

  30. Would I prefer to go back to a 5 day school week? Now, come on Mrs. Copeland what kind of question is that. Of course, what student would't want to go back to the five day school week after going through what we're going through this year. Last year, when we first started the four day school week we were all happy because we only hadto go to school for four days. However, the four day school week is now hurtting us rather than benefiting us. So, I would love to go to a five day school week because at least my 9th grade year we went to school from 8:30-3:05 rather than 7:30-4:15 [what a big difference....yes i kno]. In middle school we had the 7 periods that were at least 55 minutes and we stayed in them for thewhole school year, but i prefer the block schedule. I liked staying in a class for 90min for a semester it was better than what we're doing now. So, therefore I prefer what we had my 9th grade year which is a 5 day school week going from 8:30-3:05 with 90minute classes instead of 110 minute classes.

i think we should go to the ninety minutes block. it would be easy to deal with it. we would have easier time to do it that.

  32. i would like to go back to a five day week because the time we spend in class each day in a four week school day is the same as in a being in school for five days. i hate gettin up at five in the morinong when i went to sleep at 1 because of a project or homework we have to do. i would not like 6 or 7 classes either because that means we have more work to do. i would also like 90 minute classes again because we are not setting down for almost two hours doing work constantly. so therfore i i would like our 10th grade year schudule then this years.

  33. I would rather go to 5 days a week. Doing all these projects in less than a week is putting a lot of stress on many people. Less days and relying completely on the computers kind of ruins it for some people who aren't able to get the information. Considering a lot of people in this school don't have access to the internet at home and have to do all their work at school. This not only puts that person behind but it also puts the group behind. The concept of a group is a good idea for getting a project done faster, but not if everyone's not able to do their share of the work. Thats why we should go back to 5 days. That way our groups can have more time, or at least an extra day, to discuss their projects and find out whats wrong with it, instead of stressing and cramming it all in in 2 days. I know it will be the same amount of hours, but that 1 day can make a big difference. Such as we wont have to wake up so early, we would work with our group EVERYDAY, we wouldn't get home so late, and we wouldn't be so tired in class. I never saw a problem with having 5 days a week anyways. The 4 days a week was ok last year when we still had to be here at the same time everyday, minus the extra day, but now we have to get here earlier and get home later... that's putting way to much stress on us, and kind of taking away the point of 4 days a week. Considering our schools scoring improved last year, i don't see why it matters if we don't get those extra 6 hours. Its pointless, tiring and puts way to much stress on the teachers, parents, students and other school workers. PBL was a good idea, but it has its downsides, and no one likes the downsides. I think it would be great to just do it like last year and have the laptops with it.Therefore i believe we should go back to 5 days a week.

  34. Based on this school year, I would rather stay on the 4 day week and keep the 90 minute classes. For one thing, the week goes by much faster. If we would go back to a five day week, students would probally cause promblems and complain to much. Everybody is use to the 4 day week now. Our weekend is longer now, and no students should complain, but the only thing we should complain about is the projects that the teacher piles up on us.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think that we should go bac to five day a week because this is to long of a day and it is basically the same thing as a five day week because all they did was add hours to our day and cut a day off. Then some kids have jobs and we also have lot of projects to do so by the time school is out we will be all tired.Pbl will not be the same i believe five day school weeks will make it better and if they would just take these computers back to where they got them from.

  36. I love being able to go to school only four days however, i think that the whole arrangement is just a little too much. I enjoyed the four days last year with school beginning at 8:25 and ending at 3:45 but now our school hours are 7:25-4:14. That is really entirely too long to be in school. Then we have the laptops which are okay but to me they're creating more problems than solutions. We stay in class for almost two whole hours. That is just too long...enough said!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I would rather go back to 90 minute classes on block schedule. I like having different classed during the year because it gives me a better variety and I get tired of having the same classes, so I would get bored of a subject if I had it all year. I think I would prefer to go back to the 5 day week if it means that we have shorter day. Our days are so long, so if we play sports we don't get out of practice or club meetings until late in the afternoon and we don't have much time to complete our homework. Many students also have jobs after they get out of school, so they are either late for work, get less hours, or have to work later.

  38. Oh my gosh Amen to all ya'll have said.I pretty much have the same points too. This really is too much. It's actually causing health problems.I have a friend who recently got put on homebound because he couldn't handle the stress. He tried so hard to keep up but his grades still slipped big time and he'd stay up all night trying to get his work done and he'd come to school bout ready to pass out.He lost about 20 pounds cause of the stress eatin him up.And I agree with everyone talkin bout all the work but not enough time to do it and bein in school too long during the day.I get up at 6 and don't get home until after 7 everyday cause of practice.I stayed up til after 12 last night to finish the game board and questions for this weeks project.I'm so tired when i come to school all I wanna do is sleep.I actually do fall asleep in my 2nd block when I finish what little bit of work we do in there. It's rediculous.I really wish that instead of tryin to change everythin to try to make things better they should just have taken what we had and tried to make that better. And they don't ask anybody their opinions either. All the county seems to want to do is impress everybody by what they're tryin to accomplish here. They seem to be so preoccupied with all this nonsense that they're not thinkin about what is best for the students and the people that actually work at the school. If they made an effort to actually make things better for the students then maybe there wouldn't be a blog page filled with complaints and smack talk about their fail of a school system they're making.

  39. Mrs.Copeland, are these rhetorical questions because you already know that this schedule that we have now is pretty crazy. I miss the 5 day week although the time was illegal.I feel that they should give us back that extra day because I really need it to actually understand all this info that we have to do projects on.
Also why is that the hardest class that I have is my short class( 55 mins)? I think they should even all the classes out to an hour and 20 minutes and then make it a 5day week! Can you talk to Mr.Mackey or either show him these posts because these two hour classes are really stressing me out and I MISS 5 DAYS...and also PBL would work well with a 5 days if you ask me:)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Personally, I don't like the four day school weeks because we have to stay at school so long. I would rather go to school five days a week with 90 minute classes like we had freshman year. I also think it would be better for the PBL system. I got home at around 5:30 Thursday and worked on the gameboard project all night, woke up Friday at 6, and came to school exhausted. All I wanted to do was sleep, but if I did I would just get further behind. The school hours are ridiculous! We are at school a very long time, and have to cram so much information into our heads daily, that by Friday, I just want to sleep. However, I end up having to finish projects over the weekend that I got behind on during the week, and I still end up exhausted Tuesday. Having shorter classes and longer weeks would let us have to take in less a day, and have more time at home to work on these projects.

  41. i think we should go back to 5days because the days would not be as long as their are now.Plus i think we learn more if we go back to 5days...that's how i feel.

    ReplyDelete
  42. i beleive that we should go back on the five day schedule because it feels that we are learning less and less beacuse the laptops are already distracting us enough

    ReplyDelete
  43. i think they should keep it how it is now. We have gotten use to it so why not continue it out.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I would rather stay on the 4 day week schedule because it's less absences on week days because people do what they need to do on modays. It is also an extra day to do our home work, it is needed with all the work you all put on us. I also would rather go back to the 90 mintues in a class because it was not that bad, plus its better than what we are doing now. I could manage with that time.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I am just gonna state the obvious, being on a four day school week is a stupid move. I have to wake up so early, that I am rushed out the door, and skip breakfast every day. This has caused me to be involved in one accident, and almost one wreck due to sluggish driving. If I had the power, I would send us all to school for five days but GREATLY shorten the length of our classes. For example, I would like to see us going to school Monday through Friday 10a.m- 4p.m.

If this was to happen, students would be much more awake and productive throughout the day. Kids would be able to enjoy their nights without worrying about waking up, and most importantly, the road wouldn't have to worry about my morning driving :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. In my opinion I would rather go back to five days a week instead of four. The hours are to long and its hard for students to stay on track with being in school or up for school for twelve hours. I wish we could go five days a week or add more classes that way you arent in class for 110mins. Hardly nobody concentrates after about 3omins of the assignment or teacher giving instructions. It isnt safe for students to drive early in the morning because its dark and they just woke up and dont pay attention very well that time of the morning.

    ReplyDelete
  47. In my opinion, I would rather stay with the four day school week instead of the five day school week. The hours are longer in school, but it makes the day go by quicker when we do our work on laptops instead of writing so much. It's really not that bad staying in class for almost two hours because we get to learn more. The only class that seems like more than two hours is math...that is the only reason why I would want to go back to a five day week, so my math class would be shorter.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I would rather go back to 5 days a week, because trying to complete some work at school is putting alot of pressure on many people because we only have 4 days to get it done. Also with a 5 day week you dont have to wake up so early just to get to school. Some people like their sleep and i just happen to be one of those people. If we went back to a 5 day week then some people wouldnt be so stressed out.
