Why do you think the Social Studies portion of the Georgia High School Graduation Test is so hard? What makes the information (American History, Economics, Civcics/Government, World History, Geography) so hard to understand?

I feel as though the school doesnt prepare the students enough for the Graduation Test. They are still focused on things that do not even pertain to the test. Some students who have taken it has said that most of the information they have never heard of it because they did not get to that part of class. I think most of the times the school is unprepared and that leaves us going in that direction also.
ReplyDeleteI feel that the Social studies part of the Graduation test is so hard to many students.Because out of all the other course classes we take Social studies always been the least favorite one.Social Studies has alot of parts yu have to cover before the Graduation test get here.Students that have already taken the Graduation test has said that some of the information on there they never even seen before.
ReplyDeleteI feel that its hard because us as students do not study and prepare for the Graduation Test as much as we need to.Half of the test are not on the test so that why it is so hard.
ReplyDeletewell i myself has taking this test already and i assure you that if you don't prepare yourself and study hard you won't succeed in passing it...you must study hard and back track through all you've learned.
ReplyDeleteThe way I look at it, is that we all need to be well prepared for the Graduation Test. It determines our lives. Social Studies is a hard class, there is so much information and you have to know so much and you have to make sure you understand the information you are receiving. I do not think its that the teachers arent teaching us, learning works both ways. The student has to be willing to learn and the teacher has to be teaching the correct information. You have so many different dates and so many different battles that you have to remember and its just really hard.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I breezed through U.S History and Geography, but I'm struggling a bit in World History so it makes me worry to take the Graduation test at the end of the year.. Friends who are now seniors told me alot of the question from the graduation test is on information they never covered, so I feel the school should be responsible for not covering the right information.
ReplyDeleteU.S. History is simple. It is one of my favorite classes, but for some, it can be a subject that is dreaded because there are SO MANY DATES to remember. Too many definitions, cultures, countries.
ReplyDeleteI think that the social studies part of the graduation test is so hard because you have to remember a lot of dates and events. So many things happened in history and you have to remember why it happened, when did it happen, who had something to do with it, how did it end, what were the results, and things of that nature. Many people can't remember all of these things. Also, you must apply everything you have learned over the years about social studies, this cause you to have to study not only the things you are learning now, but also the things in the past.

The information is sometimes hard to understand because of the wording and all of the dates to remember.
ReplyDeleteThe social studies portion of the graduation test probably seems a lot harder due to the fact we don't spend most of our time learning in our classes. The laptops are used for mostly propaganda and I'm usually stuck asking myself how much i really learn with New Tech. No longer am i spending time learning about history, but learning how to make a pretty power point. Sometimes, learning IS NOT suppose to be fun.

ReplyDeleteThe Social Studies part of the GA Graduation Test is so difficult because there are so many topics that have to be covered. We start with the beginning of time to present day events. That's a lot of facts and small and large details that go along with each topic discussion. Plus, all the topics begin mixing with other topics making it hard to keep which happened here and which happened there. Economics and Government are just hard to understand period. They're so many different branches and parts of them, that it makes it very difficult to differentiate between the two. There is a large amount of information that go along with American and World History. You can't even begin to remember every single detail from 6th grade to this year. Geography is difficult because along with everything else you learn you have to be able to locate where they occurred! Wow! That's a lot of remembering we have to do to be able to pass this test!
ReplyDeleteI think it'll be hard just because there's so much to remember and dates to keep straight.Other than that I don't think it'll be that hard.And I'm kind of thinking like Zack...I don't feel like I'm learning as much this way...Or getting a good handle on everything I do learn.
ReplyDeleteI feel as if the school isn't preparing us for the graduation test. The social studies portion of the test seems easy while doing our words and questions of the day because I think I have memorized most of the questions and answers from our words and questions. Our laptops are used for our projects, not for playing on g-mail, webcam, etc. These laptops are tools, not toys.
ReplyDeleteI feel that the social studies portion is so hard because there's so much information to cover and not enough time. Its hard to remember everything that's happened in history hundreds of years ago. Social Studies can also be a very boring topic if not taught the right way. History changes every day and more and more is added on for us to learn. Its just a very overwhelming topic that's hard to remember because its not very interesting to many people.

Corey is right, it is pretty simple, but when it comes down to the dates and the political events it can be very confusing and easy to lose interest. At least World History isn't as confusing as U.S. History where we had half a million Acts and Rights to remember, but it still has its moments. I think that as long as we try our hardest to stay interested we will do very well on the test and hopefully pass so that we can GRADUATE. History can be very important in future times whether we believe it or not, and it is very important that we try our hardest to make sure we pass this class. My grade may be a 60 but i know what im talking about because i study the work and am very interested in History, i just don't do the work.

Also the questions that people come up on the test are difficult to analyze because they all seem like the right answer. there just so much history and we try to learn years of history in one semester is just immposible.
ReplyDeleteWell with the Social Studies part of the graduation test is so hard because you will have to remember a lot of things like the important dates, important people, etc. When you studies Social Studies it's like the things you study you forget just that quick and you be like HUH?? Watt did i just read and write. Some of the things people learn about history they say "history is so boring" and they end up going to sleep. Even though history is very important its very difficult to learn and listen to.
ReplyDeleteWhy is the Social Studies part of the Graduation Test so hard? Now, that is the question that every teacher wants to know. I have heard different stories about the Graduation Test from some of the seniors. Some say that it was okay just a lot of dates, and others say that it was super hard. However, I make the final decision of whether it’s hard or not in the spring when I sit there and take it myself. I think the hardest part about the test is trying to retain all of the information learned in 9th-11th grade. Can you imagine remembering everything learned from World Geography, U.S. History, and World History? I understand now why the teachers want their Social Studies classes to be a year-long class. The hardest part of the test is remembering all of the dates and the people and their significance in history. Therefore, I plan to work hard in this class to refresh my memory on what was previously taught in my 9th and 10th grade history class as well as retain the information taught in my history class now.

ReplyDeleteI think the Social Studies part of the Graduation Test is so difficult because there is a lot of material that has to be covered. Since we have semester halves for the class, we have to cram it all into 18 weeks. 4 days a week of learning is not enough time to learn all the dates, times, places, and events from the past to the present. Since this part has been difficult, why doesn’t the board extend the Social Studies to being a year? This would give us more time to prepare and also for us to be able to complete all the things we need to know in order for us to pass it.

ReplyDeleteRemebering dates and events is the most difficult thing about the social studies part of the GHSGT! There is too much information in history to have to actually remeber and comprehend. All the social studies that I have taken from 8-11 grade will be compiled on that test and I dont feel that I can actually remember all that information for me to actually make a good enough grade on the test
ReplyDeleteWhat makes history so hard is that so much has happen. There have been many events that shaped history. Trying to remember all of them is a bit hard. As for the test well they are just tring to test our memory. That is what history is about,remembering the past
ReplyDeleteI think that many students, including myself, find the Social Studies portion of the graduation test difficult. I have a problem remembering dates for big events, which makes the test more difficult. Also, we are trying to cram the whole world's history into 18 weeks of 4 days. Four days a week is not enough time to try to learn all of this, but we just have to make the best of it.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the Social Studies portion of the High School graduation test is difficult, because it is seperated into a variety of groups that are all taught throughout different years in high school. It is hard for us to be able to remember everything we learned in every grade, and be able to put it all together when it comes to taking the test. The sections that the test is divided into are hardly similar. They invlolve history, governments, and even current issues that are going on today. In different subjects we we learn each year bulids up on the last. You must know what you learned last year in order to do it this year, for example math. However Social Studies is split up into so many different areas that it is hard to learn them all. It is also hard to review all of it our junior year, when we also have to learn this year's section, world history, which is also all only in one semester. When the graduation test comes around, some of us will no longer be in a Social Studies class which will make it even harder to study.This is why the test is so difficult.

The social studies portion covers everything from geography to facts about the world.This is a lot information to be learned and down packed by the test. Although we've been learning social studies since elementary, when we take the test the information is sometimes hard to remeber because we learned it so long ago.

I would like to pass all my graduation tests the first time they are given. I will just have to just keep preparing myself so I can pass.

There are so many dates to remember & so many wars & revolts. I think economics is the hardest part for me just because I haven't taken that class yet & there are so many details you have to understand.
ReplyDeleteA large portion of the social studies section relates to memory. In this sense, someone who doesn't have a great ability to memorize things could possibly have a hard time in this area. Economics and government can be hard to understand because of multiple reasons. The government is so large and can be very confusing, and economics are so specific. Both of these trace back to memory.
ReplyDeleteI think the Social studies part of the graduation test is so hard because it's a test covering the social studies of our whole high school career. And I don't think I can remember all that happened. I think what's making it so difficult to grasp is my fellow classmates and I have to many distractions. For an example mostly laptops, an extra class, and PBL in general. To be honest I hate this whole newtech thing, i'm not learning from the projects,to me it's just busy work to get done in a short period of time. And to top it off the laptops aren't helping. All the laptops have problems and seem to get a majority of the sudents in trouble.

ReplyDeleteThere is alot of information that you have to know to be successful taking the test. The hardest thing for me to understand is the dates of events and geographical portion. The social studies part covers from like middle school up to 12th grade. I believe if I study I will do great.
ReplyDeleteI think the Social Studies part of the GHSGT is so hard, because in social studies, there are certain dates and times things happened, and you have to memorize them. Its hard to really learn about the things that went on and REMEMBER them when we are supposed to look up the answer. I feel its like cheating, i mean you can't do that on the real test, so why can we do it here?

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion social studies is one one the less instrusting subjects that is taught in school. However it can be a stressful subject, especially when you are trying to learn important dates, and special moments in the history of the world.

There are so many important things that happened and sometimes its hard to remember especially if u dont study the information like you need to. The most i can do is go ahead and try to prepare myself for it since i know is coming and hopefully i'll do an extraordinary job

ReplyDeleteyes i would think that the social studies part of the graduation test would be hard because social studies is really a hard subject and also in history there are tons of dates to remember and remembering dates are hard for one's and mrs.copeland's 4th block only have 45 minutes or less to learn and your time have to be manged in that point of time
ReplyDeleteWhy is social studies so hard? There is so much information you need to know to really understand what was really going on in the time period on what you are studying on. Remembering dates, crazy names, battle names, are hard things to remember especially when there alot to remember!
